Pixelix is an open source project, and there are many ways you can help us improve it and keep development going.

Feedback survey

We want Pixelix to work well for as many people as possible. Since everyone uses Pixelix a bit differently, on different devices and with different workflows and preferences, we rely on feedback from our users to understand what works, what doesn’t, and what we should focus on next. Something that works well for us, may not work as well for you. That's why hearing feedback from real users is very important.

We created a Pixelix feedback survey on Formbricks. It takes only a few minutes and helps us better understand what we should work on.

Formbricks is a privacy friendly and open source survey solution.

Bug reports, feature requests and feedback

Another great way to help is by reporting bugs, suggesting features, or simply telling us what you think about Pixelix.

You can check out our Mastodon account @Pixelix@mastodon.social where we regularly post updates and engage with the community. This is also a simple way for everyone with a Fediverse account to get in touch with us.

If you use GitHub, you can report bugs and suggest features directly on GitHub issues. This also makes it easier for us to keep track of issues and work on them over time.

And of course you can also reach us by email at hey@ghostbyte.dev.

Feel free to contact us, we always try to respond within a reasonable time.

Join the community

One of the easiest ways of supporting us, is simply by joining the community. Follow Pixelix and Ghostbyte on Mastodon to stay up to date.

You can also star Pixelix on GitHub. While this seems like a small thing, for us it is always motivating to see that there is interest in the project.

And perhaps most importantly, tell other people about Pixelix. Write about it on Mastodon or other platforms, recommend it to friends, or mention it when someone is looking for a Pixelfed or Vernissage client.

Translate the app

Pixelix is used by people from all over the world, so making the app available in different languages is an important part of the project.

We use Weblate for translations. On Weblate anyone can easily contribute in their browser. No technical knowledge is required.

Even small corrections can improve the experience for many users, so if you speak a language that Pixelix supports, we would be very happy to have your help.

The following graph shows the current translation status of Pixelix. We are very thankful for every contribution.

Code contributions

Code contributions in the form of pull requests are welcome, especially for bug fixes. Pixelix is an open source project and we are happy to review contributions from the community.

For new features, we want to keep control of the project's direction. So if having doubts, just contact us to coordinate.

Financial support

Finally, you can also support Pixelix financially.

Pixelix is free and open source, and is available for free through F-Droid and GitHub. We also offer paid versions on the App Store for €4 and Google Play for €2. Purchasing the app is one of the simplest ways to support its continued development.

We are two students developing Pixelix in our free time, and running the project comes with ongoing costs. We pay for servers, domains and other services, including the Pixelfed server pixelix.social and the Fediverse crawler fedisea.surf, which provides Pixelix with server and software information.

We also invested a significant portion of Pixelix's earnings back into the project when we bought a MacBook Air specifically because Apple requires an Apple device to build and publish apps for the App Store. This allowed us to bring Pixelix to iOS.

If you want to support us directly, you can also do so through Buy Me a Coffee, Liberapay, or GitHub Sponsors.

You don't have to pay for Pixelix, but if you enjoy using it and want to support us, every contribution helps us keep the project running and continue improving it.

Thank you!

We are very thankful for every bug report, every survey answer, every translated string, every recommendation, every code contribution and every donation.

Pixelix exists because people use it, give us feedback, and contribute to the project. We are incredibly thankful to everyone who takes the time to help us make it better.
